these people sometime later this evening. they are going to have to use dental records. 52 people are injured, among the man we have been talking about greg. he has an amazing story to tell because he lives at 100 glenview drive right where the explosion took place. wait until you hear what he has endured for the last 24 hours. >>> all of a sudden, i was just walking and my floor completely came --wood floors went like --exploded up, threw me against the wall. after it threw me, i got up, went to the back door, and i looked at the back door and i saw my hot tub and everything was on fire, my backyard -- flames were shooting across my backyard. i opened the door and black smoke came in and i sucked it in and i went oh, man, i'm in trouble here. >> reporter: unimaginable trouble. chopper 5 took these pictures of greg's neighborhood as it was burning. >> as i opened the front door, it exploded in my face. and i fell back and like asphalt from the ground was shooting into the house. so i slammed the door shut. >> reporter: his first thought was for his neighbor. he still doesn't know

us an up close look at the wreckage. >> reporter: right now we're at sneath and skyline fully a mile from the impact scene, but as you can see, this road is blocked off by chp and, in fact, police officers from different jurisdictions are blocking an entire swath of neighborhoods not even close to the scene telling frustrated neighbors they can't go in because it's a crime scene. there's no tape, but an officer told us there's an imaginary line here we are not allowed to cross. earlier today when reporters wanted to get close, they were told you could only do so with a government minder. they call that a pull situation. we hiked about a mile in through rough terrain to bring you these pictures. sconed earth, a close-up look at the -- scorched earth, a close-up look at the center of the san bruno blast shows the consequences of the gas main rupture. the explosion obliterated homes in the middle of the crestmoor canyon neighborhood. the closest homes were leveled. all that's left in some are chimneys. we found large chunks of asphalt that had been thrown a good 100 yards from the scene

amazing fact. this blast was so powerful, the usgs tonight tells us it registered as if it were a magnitude 1.3 earthquake at 6:11 last night. now, there are a number of stories, of course, coming out of this neighborhood today. some of them tragic, some of them absolutely amazing. ann notarangelo has the story of one man, it's just unbelievable. >> reporter: a lot of amazing stories as you know. four people confirmed killed in this explosion at least for now. the coroner's office says, though, they are waiting for the dental records to make positive identifications on those victims. 52 people injured in thi so far, four of those firefighters. 15 people were taken to local hospital by ambulance, the rest got there on their own. one man that allen was referring to is greg who lived at 100 glenview drive and has lived to tell an unbelievable story starting with when heard the explosion. >> all of a sudden, i was just walking and my floor completely came -- wood floors went like -- exploded up, threw me against the wall. after it threw me, i got up, went to the back door, and i looke

come back and tell us any news that they may have found and we got a call, a knock on the door from the coroner and the coroner was standing two police officers and at that moment i just knew it wasn't good. we had her that -- had indicated he saw jessica die and that there was nothing he could do to save her. i went to the hospital and hoped that maybe he could give me something to hope for. we were told by neighbors that they saw jessica run out after him. he had ran back in and then saw her run after him. then we could never confirm she was still alive so that little hope was there for us and the knock on the door this afternoon just confirmed what our greatest fear was. >> family members say the boyfriend was in the hospital with burns to 50% of his body. >>> and we talked to another man who barely escaped the explosion. >> all the sudden i was just walking and my floor completely came -- wood floors just exploded up. threw me against the wall, after that i got up, went to the back door and i looked out and saw my hot tub and everything was on fire, the backyard, flames shooting
